Fat versus flavor
If you’re told something over and over and over again, you may actually start to believe it, even if it ain’t so. This is the basis of brain washing which has given us everything from extreme politics, extreme religion, cults–you name it. People are quite easily manipulated, especially if you start on them at a young age. And once something is thoroughly ingrained, it is extremely difficult if not almost impossible to change their minds about it. It seems like the less people know about something, the more they consider themselves as experts on the subject. This reflects very badly on our current educational system because people are being taught to think very highly of themselves and their opinions without any real basis for it. I know something about this because I have been a teacher and a college instructor and I’ve pretty much seen it all.
Let me give you another example. I recently demonstrated The Burger Buddy to a local, well known chef in the greater Dayton area. I brought in two cooked hamburgers and he watched as I processed one of them through The Burger Buddy. He sprinkled a little salt on both of them and compared them for taste. No buns or other condiments were used. His initial reaction was surprise because he said they were virtually indistinguishable. Now this isn’t just anybody off the street we’re talking about here. This is a chef that prides himself on cooking up all manner of culinary delights. Would all chefs say something like this? Probably not, because everybody’s tastes are different. However, the real kicker was what he said later. He said he could not promote a product like this because he promotes fat as a source of flavor. Does that beat all or what?
Let me tell you something else. The Burger Buddy doesn’t just take things out of meat. It can also be used to add flavors into the meat, including salt, beer, wine, steak sauce, and soluble seasonings. In fact, The Burger Buddy could be considered as part of the final cooking process. I am hoping that people will try out The Burger Buddy using novel ingredients, write them up, and send them in to me. I would like to post these recipes on the blog and have people vote on which two they like the best. The winner would be announced and a cash prize awarded, say $100 to start?
